Open the eyes of my heart, Lord

Wow! I heard God speak to me!!  These are the excited words of a growing number of people in our fellowship as they discover—as they have the revelation—that God is speaking through visions and journaling, in worship and by the Word.  Open the eyes of my heart, Lord is becoming more an impassioned prayer and less a familiar chorus to more and more people!  I am so heartened by the response to Don and Jackie’s class, and more so, to God’s faithfulness to show and speak to the ever-expanding number with eyes to see and ears to hear…!

It is critically important that we all discover how to hear with our heart-ears and see with our heart-eyes.  WHY?  Because hearing and seeing with our HEART is the essence of a relationship with God, while hearing and seeing with our MIND is the essence of a religion about God…!  Relationship with God is built on revelation, not information.

Jesus asked his disciples in Matthew 16 Who do men say that I am?  What men say, apart from divine revelation—from God – opened and inspired spiritual eyes and ears—is purely the stirrings of their minds.  Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.  No doubt lots of great and Godly minds were speculating, yet none of them were even close to seeing or hearing who Jesus really was and is.  Our fleshly minds cannot fathom the depths of God’s greatness and love.  But who do you say that I am?  By revelation knowledge, with the ears and eyes of his heart, Peter blurted out, You are the Christ the Son of the living God.  Circumventing the limits of his fleshly mind, God the Father had revealed the truth about Jesus, God the Son, to Peter’s spiritual self.

Religion—the speculations and creations and limitations of the fallen human mind—gave way to Relationship with God Himself, built upon the Rock of revelational knowledge.  The spirit of religion gave way to the Spirit of the Living God!

Without Divine revelation, the people in Peter’s day were unable to see or hear Jesus in the fullness of who He is.  They were constantly minimalizing Him based on the limits of their brain.  People still do.  They fear the Baptism with the Holy Spirit, they grow uncomfortable in times of true worship, and they squirm in the face of prophecy or words of knowledge because none of those things fit in the small boxes of our brains.  Far too many Christians have a head knowledge about Jesus but precious little experience of Him in terms of heart revelations…

Here, however, the Lord is calling us to battle the spirit of religion.  In praying for freedom from religianity for self and others, pray for heart ears and eyes to burst open with revelation and inspiration!  Nothing breaks the grip of religiosity like a divine vision, dream or word!!

Open the eyes of my heart Lord, Open the eyes of my heart, I want to see You, I want to see You…!!!
