It seems that what many of us need most currently is HOPE. We all realize that Christ in us is the hope of Glory, and that His hope and glory are a present reality, not just a future heavenly one, but still, people are crying out for HOPE!
So were Zerubbabel and Joshua, the leaders of Israel in the time of Zechariah the Prophet. The entire nation needed HOPE. The rebuilding of the temple and Jerusalem in the face of constant threats and opposition seemed like an insurmountable mountain. But then God spoke HOPE…
In Chapter four of Zechariah, we read the most beautiful words of hope to a desperate people. In verses 6, 7, and 10, we are told the secret to gaining and maintaining HOPE when everything seems hopeless…
Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord of hosts.
The impossible becomes possible and even easy when the Holy Spirit is allowed to do the work. As believers, we have perfect HOPE as we allow the Holy Spirit—not our own might and power—to accomplish the impossible in our lives…
For who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain [a mere molehill].
When we are faced with a mountain of debt, or a mountain of sickness, or a mountain of pain, or a mountain of rejection, or a mountain of … we can have perfect HOPE in our God who promises to lay it flat! How does He do it? By the Holy Spirit!
Do not despise the day of small beginnings!
Big victories, breakthroughs, and transformations usually begin as small things—things we can easily dismiss or take lightly even though these small things will become great and mighty breakthroughs in time…!
Something as “small” as beginning a daily Scripture time, or finding a few moments to pray with your spouse, or deciding to allow the Spirit to help break a bad habit—can become gigantic things—as the “mountain” becomes a molehill and the Spirit does the heavy lifting!
What people need—then and now—is HOPE. Holy Spirit empowered, mountain flattening, small becoming huge—HOPE! God’s promises are even more real and true for you RIGHT NOW as they were to Zerubbabel and company 2500 years ago.
Yes, the enemy threatens and the way seems impossible. Yes, even our friends advise us to give up. But God, who is truly rich in mercy, is calling you and me to believe Him—and to have PERFECT HOPE in the face of a perfect storm!
May the God of HOPE fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans15: 13-15
